India won the third one-day game by 119 runs and beat West Indies to wrap up the ODI leg by 3-0 as young opener, Shubman Gill became the star of the ODI.
India used a career-high unbroken 98 from Shubman Gill to whitewash the West Indies in after the first two games were close encounters that came down to the wire.
India’s innings had to be limited to 40 overs due to frequent weather delays, and the visitors were on 225 for 3 in 36 when another delay left Gill stranded two runs short of his first ODI century.
According to the DLS method, the West Indies were given a target of 257 in 35 overs, although they were never in the chase.
Let’s scan a few moments from the series that’s going to offer India a lot of schemes.
Rise Of Shubman Gill in one-day cricket:
Shubman Gill has a calm aura about him. During the three-match ODI series in the Caribbean, he didn’t play a single shot out of anger. However, the way he was out of the first two games made him very angry. He was run out for a 53-ball 64 in the first game of the series as a result of some reckless running between the wickets.
In the second game, he attempted a strange scoop off a Kyle Mayers leg-cutter but ended up chipping it back to the bowler for 43 off 49 balls.
Gill was very close to making a hundred in the third One-Day International on Wednesday, but rain kept falling in Port-of-Spain, leaving him stuck on 98*. When he finally forced himself off the field, India’s innings had ended suddenly at 225 for 3 after 36 overs, so perhaps he was disappointed once more.
However, Gill seems to have contributed enough during this tour to replace Ruturaj Gaikwad as India’s back-up opener in ODI cricket.
Despite two delays due to weather, Gill’s rhythm continued at Queen’s Park Oval. In order to prevent losing his wicket, he also avoided low-probability strokes and moved rapidly between the wickets.
Once more, the pitch in Port-of-Spain was strange: the cutters stopped approaching the hitters, and even the new ball didn’t quite come onto the bat. Gill, though, promptly evaluated the circumstance and double-checked his cuts and pulls. In contrast, Shikhar Dhawan overcame Gill in an opening partnership that resulted in 113 runs by taking more opportunities and performing better.
However, the stand was broken when Dhawan was caught by leg Spinner Hayden Walsh Jr. skewing a ball to midwicket. Gill had accumulated a 60-ball fifty at that point.
When India was 115 for 1 in 24 overs, it started to rain. After a nearly two-and-a-half-hour delay, India’s innings was cut down to 40 overs. Gill then took the field and played his T20 game. He picked up the pace after being on 51 off 65 balls to knock 47 off his next 33 balls.
And he will be one of the amazing batters in the years to come after Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli retires.
Lower order problem ease in a row as Axar rise to top-notch:
If Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja had been available and India had been at full strength, Axar Patel would not have been able to play in his first ODI series in almost five years.
On the other hand, India has decided to keep a large pool of 40–45 players who are always ready for a game.
This is done to deal with how rapidly international cricket evolves. Finding back-ups for each function has been difficult, but Axar has made it much simpler to identify a probable replacement for Jadeja.

Axar played a fantastic display of range hitting, tactical awareness, and poise all at once in the second ODI with India facing certain defeat.
When he stepped out to bat and India required 107 runs from 68 balls, the final total was an unbeaten 35-ball 64, which featured a six in the penultimate over in the manner of MS Dhoni.
When India needed 100 runs to win from 60 balls and had five wickets in hand, Axar and Hooda were at the wicket. Hooda slumped for 33 with 56 to get off 36, leaving Axar and Shardul Thakur to finish the job. By that time, Axar had already hit three sixes. Soon there will be more.
The lower order problem will be solved soon and for Jadeja and Hardik they can play with ease.
For India it is one of the most amazing games and also for Shikhar Dhawan ahead of T20 World Cup and 50 overs world cup.
The Redemption of Mohammad Siraj in ODI cricket:
In the crucial last over, Mohammed Siraj bowled while the hosts fell just short of the 309-run total in Port of Spain during the first one-day game.
Before Yuzvendra Chahal cagedRovman Powell, Mohammed Siraj got rid of Nicholas Pooran, ending his 51-run partnership with Brandon King.
However, the West Indies’ hopes were raised by two rapid fifty-run partnerships, the first between King and Akeal Hosein and the second between Hosein and Romario Shepherd.

To start the first of three ODIs at Port of Spain with a three-run victory, Chahal had King holing out to sweeper cover before Siraj and Prasidh Krishna protected 38 off the final three overs. They did this while fending off the final onslaught from Hosein and Shepherd.
India’s bowlers stepped out to defend their total with the intention of modifying their lengths, which is how Siraj forced Shai Hope out after they had only managed 83 for 5 in the last 15 overs of their innings.
Before catching him off guard with a bumper that had Hope top-edging a catch to deep third, Siraj dragged him forward with four pitched-up deliveries.
As we have seen Mohammad Siraj bowling in Test Cricket, with exceptional performances in ODIs, he can become one of the most destructive bowlers of all time.
The paceman for Team India, Mohammed Siraj, praised the work of his fellow bowlers in the just-completed ODI series against England.
In all three games, the bowling unit was able to bowl the opposition out. With more than four overs remaining in the first innings, the bowlers took all 10 wickets, preventing England from reaching a challenging total on a favorable batting surface in Manchester.
What is the Future of Sanju Samson?
Both Sanju Samson (54) and Shreyas Iyer (63) struck half-centuries, but Axar’s unbeaten 64 off just 35 balls in the final ten overs turned the game against West Indies. Sanju Samson has emerged as a major candidate to represent cricket in Kerala, one of the rare places in India where football is more well-liked and has a larger following than cricket. Samson relocated to Thiruvananthapuram in his early teens after having his first cricket training in Delhi.
Sanju Samson of the Rajasthan Royals is the other. Samson has only ever played one T20I for India before this year, back in 2015, when a reserve Indian team travelled to Zimbabwe. He then played three more games right before the 2020 IPL. There were only three left before Rajasthan gave him the captaincy position full-time. Samson had accrued 83 runs with a strike rate of 119 from these seven games.
In IPL he has performed tremendously well but in international cricket, he has to be very consistent whenever you get a chance he should score.
But for India, he still has to wait at the doughnut and he will get a chance. He has not got a chance in every game because there are lots of players to play and also, he has to score big runs whenever he gets a chance so that he can be an eye on selectors.
India will now move on to play the five match T20I series starting from 29th of July.
