The unpleasant year 2020 has infected a lot of nice little things from its initial day. The Indian Premier League and its fans had been attacked with the news of its delay in April-May window. But, the hard work of all the player, the members or whoever are connected behind shifting it in UAE and making it possible in the bio-bubbles has brought lots of joy and smile on our sad faces. The 13-year old tournament which consists of 60-matches (56-league games) has gifted us so many top moments from century, winning joy, catches and many more. In this article, We will go through such moments that can easily described the IPL-2020. (we haven’t arranged it on a standard sequences).
1. THE WAIT AFTER 437 DAYS HAS ENDED “DEFINITELY NOT” :
A lots of expectation was going around of witnessing Ms Dhoni after the heartbreaking semifinal loss. The retirement of the former Indian captain has added some more flavor in the equation. The wait at-last ended when the world saw their hero again on the cricket field. CSK and their worst year in the history of the IPL-2020 has fired up some questions about will it be his last year in yellow. But, the two words, “ DEFINITELY NOT” with a nice usual smile not only has pleased the minds of CSK fans but also of all Dhoni lovers.
2. MUMBAI AND THE HABIT OF WINNING TROPHY :
Mumbai Indians, the most balanced side of this year’s IPL and may be the best franchise of the world, has achieved their 5th IPL trophy cracking the dreams of maiden finalist Delhi Capitals. Obviously, losing a wicket off the first ball doesn’t sense the good shot but Delhi had somehow fought back in the batting but an experienced side like Mumbai never became answerless to the Delhi attack beating them for the fourth time in this season. It gonna be so hard for them to release any player from the squad in case of a mega auction whereas Delhi would want to back this bunch and come with a stronger side in next year.
3. WILL THE YEAR 2020 DO A TEWATIA :
As, I have already mention, the year 2020 has made the worst start and getting ugly day by day. The same story was occurring with Rahul Tewatia in Sharjah against KXIP. Rajasthan were climbing to the top of the Everest. Yes, they were going well. But, Suddenly Rahul Tewatia arrived and at once his score read 14(21). The case wasn’t like he hadn’t tried but the ball was not connecting the stick. But as they say in Hindi “PRESSURE MEY KUCH BIKHAR JATE HEY; OR KUCH NIKHAR K ATE HEY.” (some eats pressure or being eaten up by it.) The 27-year old Haryana boy did the bravest work and hit 5 sixes to a Cottrell over to turn the match on his head. Those people who were naming Rahul as curse, welcomed him as a bless. Hopefully, the year will do the same.
SHORT RUN CONTROVERSY COST PUNJAB PLAYOFFs :-
One mistake in life here and there could spoil a part of success in life and that exactly happened with Kings XI Punjab when a short run decision in the third ball of the 19th over drove Punjab out of the competition. Mayank Agarwal hit Rabada to the extra cover for a couple but the square leg umpire denied with a status of short run, which eventually proved to be wrong by replays. “ What’s the point of technology if it can’t be used?” co-owner Preity Zinta tweeted, “It’s high time BCCI introduced new rules. This can’t happen every year.” Specially when the game went so close, why did not the umpire make it correct? If it’s possible for a boundary, over-boundary, wide and many more, why not with that one? The end saw Delhi took important 2points in their kitty.
PHYSICS DRIVES PUNJAB TO THE DOUBLE SUPER-OVER NIGHT:
Punjab has given us so much shocks this year. In a game against Mumbai Indians in Dubai, where KXIP were going nicely again decided to surprise us and brought themselves needing 2 off 1. Pollard’s proper throw and Jordan’s direction change that cost some extra second saw him being run-out and the decision came to a super-over. After Bumrah’s terrific 5-run over hardly someone had any hope on Mohammed Shami and KXIP. But, the night was still a lot to witness. Shami’s outstanding 6-ball over saw the game adding more 2-overs to get its winner. In that case, now onus was on Joradn to deliver who did decently with Mayank’s jump and a six brought joy and smile on the faces of Punjab fans.
GAME OF INCHES:
The cricket pitch is of 792 inches (22-yards) and some cricket field is of 3346 inches approximately (85-meters). But the whole fight between teams go on about 2-inches. And the world saw how that happen. The game was between KXIP & KKR where the former required 6 off the last ball. The strike was taken by Aussie Glen Maxwell against the magic-man Sunil Narine. Maxwell did hit that but it landed just before the ropes and umpire Crish Gaffaney with a uuh smile showed a boundary. The short inch again saw Punjab on the wrong side in 3-times in this article. Now, just think about how unfortunate they were!!
HATS OFF TO THE MAN BEHIND THE SCENE:
In those tough times, hats off and lots of thank to the people; the commentators on the field, the doctors who are doing the COVID-19 tests on a regular basics, the camera man and everyone, who are behind the scenes to make the IPL-2020 successful. A special mention to the grounds-men, who are doing all the hard works to make those fair pitches that saw a great balance between bat & ball. Last but not the least, Thanks to BCCI President Sourav Ganguly, who has kept his words on having the IPL-2020. He has also mentioned that the next year’s IPL will be held in India in April-May window.
So, these remain the moments of the biggest and the toughest league of Cricket. Definitely, The life has changed in every night by getting smile and joy in the face because of the IPL but now IPL-less night would be so hard for all the cricket lovers to spend. But, now it’s again a time for the whole country to be a team and play as an unit against the Australian side on their soil.
