TATA IPL 2022: Sixth Week Top Performances: Gaikwad 99, Umran Malik’s 5-fer, Rashid special sixes blazed up the sixth week

Gujrat Titans are at the top of the points table while Mumbai Indians finally have got one win in the IPL 2022 under their belt.

The 15th season of the Tata IPL 2022 has now moved towards the its business end as teams now will start to earn their tickets for the playoffs. Gujrat Titans (GT) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), the two new sides are sitting at the top.

Let’s take a look at the top performances from this week:

Game 46, SRH vs CSK: Ruturaj Gaikwad stole te show with 99 run knock:

Ruturaj Gaikwad wasn’t in the best of his form with so many low scores specially after winning the orange cap last year when Chennai won the title. Gaikwad had just one fifty under his belt on the same ground, MCA in Pune.

However, he began the evening positively with a huge six pulled over the fine leg boundary off Marco Jansen before another cracking six off the sheer pace of Umran Malik. He completed his fifty in just 33 balls. He kept the pressure of by going on the bowlers regularly but was finally dismissed on 99, missing out on a sensible century in the eighteen over as CSK raced away to 202, thanks to his opening stand of 186 with Devon Conway.

Game 45, LSG vs DC: Mohsin Khan murdered Delhi with 4-16 figures:

Even though, Lucknow was defending a huge total 190+, the main job for them was to separate the fierce opening stand between Warner and Shaw. Mohsin Khan got rid of David Warner on a personal score of 3, thanks to a low catch of Ayush Badoni before deceiving Rishabh Pant in the middle over to curtain down DC’s dream.

When he was called back later, Mohsin straightaway sent back Rovman Powell thanks to a length delivery before adding Shardul Thakur in his wicket’s column to shut Delhi’s chances of winning the game. He finished with figures of 4-16 in his four overs at crucial stages.

Game 38: PBKS vs CSK: Shikhar Dhawan displayed his class with an 88* knock:

Put into bat first, Punjab never got off to a good start losing their captain, Mayank Agarwal cheaply at 37/1 in the powerplay before Shikhar Dhawan raided his show of batting. He went on to score his 6000th run in the tournament in his 200th IPL game.

The southpaw also scored 9000 run in T20 Cricket. He paced his inning at evening so beautifully and took chances against the bowlers at the right way and used the smaller sides of the ground so well. He drilled down another IPL half-century against CSK bowlers as on his anchor innings, PBKS punched 187/4 which proved too much for the CSK side.

Game 39: RR vs RCB: Half-centurion Riyan Parag flied up Rajasthan to a decent score:

Rajasthan, after losing their inform batters, early on was pushed at 68/4 in just 9.3 overs when Riyan Parag was welcomed in the middle. He began the evening with sheer confidence and attacking as he smashed Shahbaz Ahmed early and fired in the later stage.

The 20-year-old went on to score his second IPL half-century as RR deposited 144/8 in their 20 overs which proved to be a winning score. Parag also with four catches in the outfield becomes just the second played after Jacques Kallis to score 50+ and grab four catches.

Game 40, GT vs SRH: Umran Malik blew fire to grab fifer in Wankhede:

A young fast bowler Umran Malik produced a sensational spell of bowling with his maiden five wicket haul.

Chasing 196 runs, Gujrat were well placed at 68/0 in just seven overs when Umran Malik was called in the attack. The 22-year-old pacer delivered by disturbing the stumps of opponent leader, Hardik Pandya before closing the knock of Wriddhiman Saha. He went on to take more wickets and all the pace of 150kmph+ was making the whole India proud.

He finished with 5-25 in his four overs.

Game 40, GT vs SRH: Rashid Khan and Rahul Tewatia seized the victory:

Even though, Umran blusted through the batting line-up of Gujrat Titans early on with is five wicket haul, the partnership of Rahul Tewatia and Rashid Khan added a vital partnership of 59* to seize the deal for the Titans.

Despite their attacking score, Titans needed a heavy score of 22 in the last over. Rahul slogged the first ball but could have just one in the next ball. Rashid launched three more sixes to seal the game for Titans in a nail-biting finish to grab an unexpected victory.

What’s to come:

The Gujrat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants will now try to add the ‘Q’ letter before their name while the other sides like RR, RCB, SRH will try hard to be one of those rest two teams.
