2013..2015..2017..2019..2020.. Of course you guys are wise enough to realize that these are those foremost memorable years in the hearts of Mumbai Indians. The blue brigade is not only the best team of the IPL history but may hold the top position in franchise Cricket around the world. Their success is absoulately unbelievable.

The most costly franchise, Mumbai Indians, was brought at a price of INR 11.19 Crore ($111.9 milion) by Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) in its inaugural edition. Everyone was expecting a lot of success at that time but some gaps started to be discovered during the games. Yes, they had a bunch of notable players from TendulkarPollockJayasuria to the likes of HarbhajanBravo or Uthappa. But, they hadn’t enjoy the initial couple of years beacause sometimes it’s not easy to achieve the winning formula in sports, specially in a format which is just 2yrs. old at that time.

They almost had a nack of making huge sqauds of 25 members. Whenever, they find a player here and there, they sign him to play for them and that means those players, who are not established at that point of time, would only end up warming the reserve benches. Soon, they lost the services of Bravo, Dhawan or Rahane as they all wanted to contribute to the team’s performances which wasn’t possible in Mumbai’s jersy.

But a significant change was appeared during the 2010 IPL season. They reached the final but ended up losing to CSK. Still, the process of winning began slowly but steadily. They started to tick so many boxes.

Let’s go through their success mantras in the league.

Finding an Young Captain:

You may not see a player coming from another franchise, becoming the leader of the team. But, that did happen with Mumbai Indians as they brought Rohit Sharma from Decan Chargers and gifted him the leadership of the side. Under Rohit’s captaincy, the team went one step better from 2010 and eventually won their first IPL-trophy in 2013. He has also enjoyed 58.65% win percentage as a leader of the troops. Honestly, giving Rohit the leadership has brought the best out of him.

The Young pool of Talent:

Initially as an youngstar, no one wants to be a part of MI but now every youngstar wishes to go to the blue brigade. Players like Rahul Chahar, Ishan Kishan or Markhande, those who can be the part of the future Indian side, is currently playing for the Mumbai Indians. Not to forget that Bumrah or Hardik Pandya who are one of the crucial players of the country, have made themselves better playing in the team. The franchise always have kept faith on their players and that’s really appreciable for them.

Power of Fans:

If you ever had a chance of walking into the Wankhede stadium during the games of Mumbai Indians, you will just feel that you are in the middle of a blue sea. The fan group named “Mumbai Paltan” hugely supports their team and that lifts an extra energy in the players. Whenever, Rohit, Pollard or Bumrah hit a six or take a wicket, they keep shouting louder and louder.
# “ Duniya Hila Denge Hum..” and they really did so..

Run-away match Winners & Experience:

To be so consistent and give others a tough fight, one thing that you will require is having so many match winners. And this is where they are slightly better than Chennai Super Kings. If you omit Dhoni and Raina from CSK, it will be without its heart and soul. But in case of  Mumbai, they had a lot of run-away match winners whether its Rohit, Hardik, Krunal, Bumrah or Pollard. You name it and they had it.

But one thing that both the team has common in themselves is having so many experienced players. This experience really helps of handling the team in pressure situation.

Role of Administration & Support-staffs:

Whenever, there is a discussion about the best support-staffs, Mumbai should walk into the top position. They have all the basics covered to get the best out of their players. The best fielder, Johnty Rhodes, was part of the side as a fielding coach. From Mahela Jayawardene (head coach), to Shane Bond (bowling coach) and Robin Singh (batting coach), they had all the best coaches of the world.

Also, whenever there is any game goes on in India whether it’s Mustaq Ali Trophy (t-20 tournament) or Vijay Hazare Trophy (50-over tournament), the 5-member talent scouts including John wright will always remain present in the field to  look for the best domestic Indian players.

That’s the story behind the success of Mumbai based franchise in the IPL. They really have taken some hard, emotional and strategic decisions throughout the years. Fans will surely hope that their team will transfer those alternative years into back to back years. Are they good enough to keep their hands in the IPL trophy in 2021 for the 6th time ?  Time Will Tell Us..!!
