Indian Cricket has always been blessed with incredibly talented Cricketers. They have helped the country to become one of the top Cricket playing nation. But some special Cricketers have transcended the field of Cricket to become icon and inspiration. After keeping their feet into the ground, they carry the pride and hope of the nations, a great excitement of all fans around the globe.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni is undoubtedly one of the eminent figures in the list of greatest Cricketers of all time. Being the leader of Indian Cricket team, he showed a tremendous skill of taking responsibilities. Whenever he came to play, with the chants of his name, he amazed every single person with his calmness, ability of playing under pressure and reading the situation immensely.

Early Life:

Ms Dhoni was born in Ranchi, Bihar ( now in Jharkhand ) on 7th July in 1981. The man who has impressed all of us with his lightning wicket keeping skills, hardly played the game during his school time in DAV Jawahar Vidya Mandir, Shyamali, Ranchi. He was a Travelling Ticket Examiner (TTE) at kharagpur railway station in West Bengal from 2001 to 2003.    Mahi was included in the Bihar U-19 squad for the 1998-1999 season. In the following year in the final, Dhoni made 84 to help Bihar posting 357 but the innings soon was being overshadowed by a marathon Yuvraj Singh innings of 358.

Playing some matured and impressive knocks in the Ranji Trophy and for the India’A’ side, he drew the attention of captain Sourav Ganguly.

International Career:

Ms Dhoni was picked in the national ODI squad for the Bangladesh 2004-’05 season. But the start was just awful, duck on debut and that too in a run-out. Inspite of an average series he was picked for the Pakistan series. The breakthrough innings of 148 in Visakhapatnam cemented his spot in the Indian side. His match winning knock of 183 in 2005 was described as “ Uninhibited, Yet Anything But Crude “ in Wisden Almanack (2006).   Due to his consistent ODI performance, Dhoni overtook ponting as number one in the ICC ODI Batsman ranking, becoming the fastest (42th innings) to do so.

2007 T-20 World Cup:

Mahi made his International T20 debut in 2006 and the world again saw the Indian wicket keeper dismissed on “0”. He was chosen to lead the team in the upcoming 2007 T20 World Cup. Arch rivals pakistan was heading towards the target, set by the blue brigade in the fianl.
But the decision of giving the final over to Joginder Sharma, who was hit all over the park, was hardly accepted by anyone. But a mishit by Misbah-ul-Haq to the third man in Sreeshanth’s  hand carried India to the ICC world T20 Trophy. And the moment turned the mindset of a young team under a raw captain. MSD had a excellent year in 2009 scoring 1198 runs in 24 innings.

2011 ODI World Cup:

“Dhoniii… finishes off in style.. a magnificent strike into the crowd.. India lift the world cup after 28years.” Adjustment with senior players as a young captain and a huge expectation of fans had made the world cup mission a tough job. Chasing 275 in the final against Sri Lanka, Dhoni (91*) rescued his team alongside Goutam Gambhir (97) and Yuvraj Singh (player of the tournament) to help India lift their second World Cup since 1983.

2013 Champions Trophy:

India were up against England in 2013 champions trophy final. Needing a small total for victory, Cook led side were almost there with the champions trophy.  Throwing the ball to Ashwin at that moment was something that everyone went against ; but taking those awkward decisions have become habbits of Dhoni.  Winning the 2013 ICC Champions Trophy, Ms Dhoni became the first and only skipper in International Cricket to claim all ICC trophies.

2015 ODI World Cup:

India’s preparation going into the world cup was poor. During the tournament, Mahi became the first Indian captain to win all group matches in such tournaments. Beating Bangaladesh in the quarter final, he became the 3rd and 1st non-australian captain to win 100 ODI matches. But a poor show on the semi-finals day against the host Australia, broke their expectations of winning the work cup for consecutive time.

Stepping down as captain:

Dhoni stepped down as captain of india in the limited over formats in January 2017, by handing the responsibility to Virat Kohli. During the 2018 Eng tour, he went past the milestone of 10k runs.

Test Career:

Since making his debut in 2005 against SL, Dhoni broke his own record of not scoring a duck on debut. He smashed his maiden century against Pakistan. He led India to a 2-0 victory with scoring two centuries and with this feet, IND climbed upto the top position in test rankings. Following the 3rd test in Melbourne, Dhoni announced his Silent Retirement from the format with making an unbeaten 24 runs.

Post 2019- World Cup priceless question:

The priceless question of the Cricketing world at this moment is, “ where is Ms Dhoni ?” Have we seen the last of him ?  The Dice of time rolls on and it comes the 2019 Cricket World Cup semifinal. As an Indian, I can feel the emotion of the fans and not accepting the fact. But, I can bet, seeing India 3 down, MSD was the last hope for whom all of us has kept our hands away from the Telivision switch. He has served IND for 16 years and that’s really appreciable and praiseworthy.

There are too much to talk about the Ranchi boy; all the secrets of his cool and calm mind. But I also need to think about the limitation of length. He is so much special and a real fighter. As a batsman you don’t want Mahi behind the stumps and as a bowler, you wish to not have Mahi on strike.  The most impressive is playing the game fairly and not letting the emotions come on the field. The helicopter shot is just a nightmare to all the bowlers. So many captains will come, but to match with his captainship record will be a dream comes true. We are really greatful to showcase his skills in the Cricketing field. That’s why, we thank him for serving us.
