IPL Final 2019 : When the Team work of Avenger Mumbai Indians Spoiled the Faith party of Thanos Shane Watson

Chennai lost the IPL 2019 Final against Mumbai Indians by a whisker.

The greater the faith, the greater the result.”  – Frank Fools Crow.

Showing faith on someone is not the easiest job in sports as captain. It reflects not only the fact that you trust the person but it also means that in his view the capabilities and skill-set of the non-performing player certainly knocks the ones warming the benches.

Shane Watson’s Poor IPL:

The Australian pro, Shane Watson, hasn’t enjoyed a great 14-league games in the IPL 2019 with just 258-runs. When there were so many questions raised over his spot, half of the television programs were based on his place; he acquired the most important backing of his captain Ms Dhoni and he almost carried his team over the line without much help around on the last night.

The big occasion was set to begin at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium in Hyderabad where Mumbai finds some of the fresh enjoyable memories couple of years both when they beat the Rising Pune Supergiants (RPS) by just 1-run. The only man who was present in both the events is Ms Dhoni, who after losing the toss had to guide his team in the field. It would have been interesting to see his decision if the coin fell on his side because he generally loves chasing even in big stages.

Mumbai kicks off innings with ease:

After a rapid start by Quinton de Kock who was just dealing in sixes, the blue camp found themselves in a bit of bother losing him and their captain Rohit Sharma at the score of 45 in a space of just of just three balls. That means that the repairing was needed to be done by the next two young Indians rather then keeping the Chennai spinners out of the game during the middle overs. Just to erase the draught of boundaries they have to go for some bad shots which made them get perished.

Imran Tahir exchanged fellow national team-mate Kagiso Rabada in the race for the Purple cap holder when he dismissed Ishan Kishan at point for the fourth time in the same number of attempts. “We have made it clear to him that me and Watson are never coming to him.” The hilarious comments of Mahi on Tahir’s running celebrations is still one of my favorite moment of the season. “When he gets a wicket, he runs to the other side.” Mumbai finding themselves 102-5 after 15-overs would have wanted to break the jail. Against a team like the Super Kings who bats deep, you surely want a formidable score of something around 150 to feel them a bit of pressure.

Kieron Pollard goes in the beast mode:

The duo of Pollard & Hardik had rescued their team before from his situation for so many times and it’s another chance for them to add a page on that book. The latter straightaway took the beast mode hitting a six and a boundary. The shocking incident occurred when Suresh Raina, one of the safest fielders in the house, dropped Hardik in the cover region. It didn’t prove too much costly as he breathed last to an excellent Chahar yorker in the middle stump.

One of the funny but charming contest is between the two Caribbean mates, Pollard and Dwayne Bravo. The former smacked the other for two sixes in the last over to stretch out the score to respectable 149/8. It was going to be tough to chase in a big final’s day and that two against the two best bowlers Bumrah & Malinga. As a Chennai fan, I am afraid to say that the first half or specifically the momentum flew with the men in blue thanks to a superb last over.

Shane Watson started well in a attacking way:

Just like their opponents, the Yellow army also got off to a flying start thanks to some of the attacking shots from Faf du Plessis and he ensured that off-form Watson took some time to het in before transforming into the last final situation. A full wide yorker by Krunal Pandya drew the first blood sending the South African for the last time in the IPL-2019.

Suresh Raina’s feet was trying to settle and that time, Watto took charge and looked in prime form. It’s time to repay all the faith that the CSK management and the captain had shown on him. It could have been a night where you find the big Aussie to carry drinks and towels. But, the beauty of T-20 Cricket and specially the IPL is that it turned back so fast. The game received new life when Mr. IPL was shipped back by a successful LBW review on the ball of Rahul Chahar.

The Turning point:

Rayudu’s poor execution of a shot brought skipper Dhoni on the ground to do all the heavy lifting again to see his team home. All the coaches generally at a young stage advised not to run on a miss field but the former Indian captain always tried to look for runs and that accepted destruction.

An Ishan Kishan throw disturbed the bails and it took an era for the third umpire, Nigel Llong to press the red button only to close all the gates for him to enter Chennai (having some fun just). One of the fastest legs of running between the legs found itself a yarn short of the crease. From 70/1 in 9.1overs, the Whistle Podu stunned at 82/4 in 12.4overs losing three of their main soldiers.

The man watching all those dramas from the other end was running on his own rhythm. In the 16th over, he charged Malinga for three back-to-back boundaries after a six to start the over by Bravo. The strange decision of introducing Krunal in the 18th over just because of Watson’s weakness against the left-arm spinners went in horrible path. Three back-to-back sixes in different regions of the field made it look so easy for them hereon.

The game on the edge of the seat:

It was a night when everyone was leaking runs from one end and Bumrah coming from another end bowled silent over to get his team back in the contest. An unusual misfield behind the stumps from Quinton de kock brought the final equation to 9-runs required in the last over. It was both tough and easiest job having one Malinga over left but Rohit had to feel whether he would turn up to any other options.

Waston repays faith but fails to take CSK home:

The 4th ball got off was hit firmly by Watson and they completed an easy single but trying to comeback for the second, he lost his wicket, thanks to a brilliant throw off Krunal Pandya. The pic of the diving Shane Watson revealed that blood was flowing from his knee. “It wasn’t actually the next day when my wife Lee mentioned that ‘there was blood on your pants’. The next few words just won everyone’s heart and determined his relationship with the CSK family. “A bit of blood was not going to stop me especially at such a big time for CSK. The love and support I got since joining CSK have been mind blowing.”

A wicket in the last ball needing two meant that the experience of Malinga and a wasted review in the middle overs during the game, has won the 4th and most IPL trophies. The way Pollard carried on his shoulder; a CSK player would have needed to carry Watson if he were able to cross the line.

“It was quite a funny game; we were passing the trophy to each other.” The words of Ms Dhoni at the post-match presentation briefly described about the two top teams in the history of the league. “Both committed mistakes and eventually the winning team was the one that committed one mistake less.”

Rohit knew that they were trying to come-back into the game and the way the team responded was absolutely dightful to watch. “Firmly believe, captain is representative of his team. Players make the captain look so good.” It could have been a fairy tale end for Shane Watson but Cricket doesn’t follow the script. All of his party was spoiled by the Avenger Mumbai Indians.
