Mumbai went into the game with strong hand:

Before the match, the statistics was against KKR as they only managed to win 7 matches whereas MI had tasted victory in 22 games in this rivalry. In their last 13 encounter the Rohit Sharma’s Paltan defeated the Men in Purple for 11 times.

Now in this match Mumbai Indians puts a decent total of 161. After very slow start and early departure of skipper Rohit Sharma, Ishan Kishan played a cautionary innings. Two young players, Tilak Verma and ‘Baby AB’ Dewald Brevis played decent knock and special thanks to Suryakumar Yadav and Kieron Pollard to getting the crucial 76 runs in last 5 over.

Venkatesh Iyer laid the platform for Cummins firecrackers:

Though Sam Billings played a good knock, a rash shot against Leg spinner Murugan Ashwin cost his wicket. When Andre Russel got out, the score was 101 runs for Five wickets. KKR needed 61 runs in 41 balls. Clearly MI felt the smell of their first Win in the Tata IPL 2022 but Pat Cummins has other ideas.

In a surface where every batter failed to time the ball properly, he did so with ease. The sixth wicket Partnership of 61 runs between Venkatesh Iyer and Pat Cummins ended the match for KKR. In this Partnership the main contributor was Pat Cummins who smashed the ball so cleanly and effortlessly around the ground from third man to Long off.

Generally, these kinds of innings expected from a Caribbean Giant or some quality top order batsman but Pat Cummins stole the win from MI’s jaw by his brilliant knock and making KKR a great balanced side with lots of strength in lower middle order. After this type of threatening innings played by him, KKR looked more dangerous side and should qualify for playoffs.

The Kolkata Knight Riders will now move to Brabourne Stadium for their fifth game against Delhi Capitals on 10th April.
