Just after 11 in the night of 16th of August, the whole India erupted watching their Cricket team getting a beyond belief victory on a slightly warm sunny day at Lord’s when England’s last man, Jimmy Anderson, missed a Siraj ball to see it disturb the furniture. Even after 20mins at the end of the day, skipper Root’s fumbling at the post-match ceremony might indicate the prospect of the game.
When both teams reached London this week, India would surely feel themselves unlucky given that they were turned down of a fantastic Trent Bridge win for 5th day foul weather. Although, they had nightmares of 2018 when Ashwin was the highest run-getter in both the innings in this ground. Root looked up and the grey clouds made him electing to bowl first. Some of the eye brows being raised when Rahul-Rohit 126-run opening partnership looked solid as they played all the bowlers with ease. At the end, it looked a bit scratchy for the side but Rahul’s 1st entrance on the honors board made sure the opponents had a long job for the next day.
KL Rahul Century Headlines Indian Day:
Rahul gently began the second day with a flick in the legs for a couple but found Sibley at covers in a lazy morning shot. Rahane got out in the very first delivery he faced in the fresh morning and suddenly, the aim of getting 450 looks a bit far as they lost their last 5-wickets for mere 33-runs. Anderson, who was doubtful in the eve of the game with a side strain, again for his name on the honors board.
England did start well but post tea, the first 15mins felt that Indian openers might again come that day padded up. Sibley got out in the same fashion as Hameed who was making a comeback after 5-long years got a golden duck missing a straight delivery. Burns played decently for his 49 before being adjusted LBW late evening. Bairstow looked well in the middle but all the burden was on the skipper Joe Root; He did it single handedly in Nottingham, he did it again with one hand being tied behind. 2021 belongs to him as he brought his 5th century of the year. Others just add a few.
Joe Root Continues His Dream Run of Form:
There was a bit of voice raised with the selection of Ishant Sharma over Ashwin; but he proved it wrong with a figure of 3-69 getting Ali and Sam on consecutive deliveries. Root still was going on for his 150. In the late evening of the 3rd day, there was a fair amount of verbal spat went between Jasprit Bumrah & Anderson with the latter being hit on the head and various parts of the body in a 15min long over. At last, Shami got Anderson with a length delivery but Root’s 180 ensured that they would have a solid lead of 27.
On the fourth day, India might have an aim of scoring big and having a crack against England on the 5th day. Scratch the dream; Rahul got out, Rohit fell right into the trap with an irresponsible shot comparing the game situation and then Kohli after quite a few good shots, chased a ninth stump ball off Curran at the stroke of Lunch.
Rahane joined Pujara. The duo was under so pressure of delivering for their side to keep the career on track and Boy, they did it handsomely!! Pujara went into the shell, with his first run off 35th ball and the 100th delivery was cheered with huge roar on a silent Lord’s ground. They played with proper control. 100 run partnership arrived. When Pujara got out to a delivery that ripped off the surface, Root might be thinking that they had to get India as quick as possible. Rahane and Jadeja got out soon.
Bumrah-Shami Calmed Indian Nerve with the Bat:
When Day 4 ends early due to bad light, all eyes were gathering around one man, 23yr old Delhi boy Rishabh Pant. If he could stay on the crease even for an hour, Ind might have a chance of drawing the test match; leave alone winning it; given that he might score at 3 and half r.p.o. and the time would tire the track a bit more an all might result in that this fragile England batting might deny the chase.
Robbinson got Pant early but when Bumrah joined Shami after Ishant’s short resistance, England just went with the ego of bowling short for the revenge of what happed with their pro fast bowler. There was no slip with 5-men waiting in the deep. The heat was raising higher and higher. Soon Bumrah and Shami brought 89-run partnership, with the latter scored his 2nd half-century. From one point where it looked Ind could reach to 210 or less, Virat declared 9 balls later with 60-overs remaining in a target of 271.
The clouds gather on Lord’s as lights took full effect. Burns trying to play on the leg side, got a leading edge as the ball flew to Siraj who did no mistake, Sibely went for duck too making it for the first that both English openers went for zero on their soil. Hammed never looked well and he went to the pavilion after being adjusted LBW to Ishant.
Indian Batting Rips Through England Batting:
On both sides of the tea break, England lost 2-wickets; the latter side saw the big fish getting trapped. Root did mention that he took mention that he took all the responsibilities as a leader of the side but What can more English Cricket would expect form him?? They should worship him!!
Kohli dropped Butler and it looked for a moment that England might survive. What was common throughout the game was, whenever, India got one, they got two and exactly in the same way, after Ali’s nicked off, Sam went on a King Pair. The last hour begins, with England still have 3-wickets in the bank.
Bumrah went with a slower one that Robbinson had no idea of the ball and was given LBW and the last nail in the coffin being settled when Butler was dismissed. India from one point of surviving the test match has grabbed an unbelievable victory and the taste of the Independence day 2-days later felt the sweetest. With so many incidents going through the game, it was a game to remember along with Jo’burg 2018, Brisbane 2021.
Both teams will move to Headingly with selection problem; England running out of players whereas India still trying to figure out how to get Ashwin in the side; whom will they leave??
